From six (6) firms in 1986, there are now over 100 firms located at MEPZ, employing close to 40,000 workers and generating export sales of $1.5 Billion in 1999. Majority of locator firms are Japanese such as Asahi Pentax, Taiyo Yuden, NEC, and National Semiconductors. Other well-known locators are Fairchild Semiconductors, TMX, and United Technologies.

Just 2.5 km. from MEPZ 1, there are now more than ten (10) locator firms. Available areas at 5,000 sq.m. & 10,000 sq.m for lease term of 24 or 25 years.

WCIP in Balamban town, 63.9 km. south of Cebu City, is a joint venture of the Aboitiz Group and Tsuneishi Holdings, Inc. of Japan. It is planned for medium to heavy industries, especially for shipbuilding and allied activities. At present there are 4 locators.
